Empowering Librarians
with Bilingual Practical Techniques & Artistic Insights

During our workshops, participants will learn dual techniques and principles necessary to assist bilingual audiences.

 

Each workshop will include small group discussion, problem solving scenarios and an evaluation.  In each training session, participants will be exposed to different artistic expressions. All presentations follow a simple and systematic structure which is easy to understand and can be immediately applied in a participant’s workplace.

Our Workshops

Development, promotion, delivery and evaluation of intercultural programs for Spanish speaking audiences: Overview and best practices

In this interactive workshop participants will learn artistic, marketing and community outreach strategies in working with the Latino community for library programs. We will share concrete step by step case studies of implemented intercultural programs, demonstrating the many connections across art, learning, community and literacy. Participants will also learn some dual techniques and principles necessary to assist bilingual audiences. The workshop includes small group discussion and problem-solving scenarios.

Connecting the dots on social emotional health
and lifelong learning

Participants will learn strategies on how they can motivate their audience to write their response to published literature drawing on their own experiences and emotions. Learn how to identify the therapeutic features of stories and poems.

Día Celebration Workshop

In this interactive workshop participants will learn artistic, marketing and community outreach strategies to promote Dia. Participants will also explore and implement dual language techniques to assist bilingual audience during storytime programs.

Pueblos Workshop

Pueblos will help Hispanic parents, grandparents and children recover their cultural heritage by rekindling their memories of oral traditions, such as childhood songs, folktales, plays, riddles, nursery rhymes and poems.

Language techniques to reach diverse populations

Discover the connection between a new language and its meaning without translation by using language techniques. Participants will learn how storytelling, music and drama become the bridge to engage English Language Learners in literacy. In this participatory training they will receive lots of resources and ideas to work with diverse communities.

Using Memory for Story Development

Author Irania Patterson will share how she uses sensory memory to develop stories, poems and songs for print and performance. She will discuss and assist non-Spanish speakers in the process of translating their stories authentically. You will utilize her techniques to develop your own short story in two languages.
