Summer Reading Programs

Criss Cross Mangosauce offers interactive educational performances and workshops aligned with the Summer Reading Program theme in the libraries.

Our programs are a great way to experience cultures and Spanish language through music, theater and drama. That has a power on its own to connect children and families.  It is fun and it is educational.  For those who don’t speak the language, it is a great,  because they get a few words out of it.  For those who do speak the language, they get a sense of pride from hearing their language and seeing their culture reflected in our music and stories.

During the Summer of 2011 and 2012 we had a great time touring North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida and we are planning to do the same in 2013!  Our tours received a great amount of media attention; we even got featured in two programs of  CNN en Español.

This year, we also produced a video for the Collaborative Summer Library Program called Storytime Techniques. Any Language. Any Community. In this video, we showcase our bilingual techniques as we understand that English is not the primary language of all stortytime participants or their caregivers. Also we know that English-speaking caregivers often want to expand their young charges view of the world and vocabulary with words or songs from other cultures in other languages.
